Anna Belle is a delight! She is loving and gentle and loves to have attention. She is usually never far from Clementine, her mother. She is patient at feeding time and often waits till any jostling is done before she begins to eat. Her favorite treats are butterscotch flavored.
Annie Oakley

Annie Oakley is a rare ivory donkey with blue eyes. She stands patiently in the summer to have her sunscreen applied to her so that she will not get a sunburn. She is not afraid to push her way through the herd to get to a treat or to eat at mealtimes. She is gentle and is bonded to her buddy, Jefferson.
Calamity Jane

Calamity Jane is a loner and prefers to be with people over other donkeys. She seems to enjoy being independent and does not play much of a part in the herd dynamics. She is always trying to follow the person feeding out of the gate and hee-haws when she does not get her way.
Charger

Charger is known locally as our Donkey-Dog. Seventy percent of the time, Charger free ranges the 35-acre property. He loves to run up to and vocally welcome anyone who arrives at the sanctuary be it a volunteer, mail carrier or delivery person. In fact, one of the UPS drivers brings Charger his favorite treats when he delivers packages. Charger thinks he is the King of the sanctuary and hee-haws when he wants someone to come out and pay him attention. He has difficulty with other’s personal space, loving to be as near as possible to anyone who visits. He is such a unique donkey and is loved by any who meets him.
Clementine

Clementine is the matriarch of the donkey herd and is one of the earlies donkeys to come to the sanctuary. She is cooperative and is always desirous of a delicious piece of apple or a peppermint flavored treat. She spends most of her time with Anna Belle but is often found mothering the younger donkeys. She is very vocal and has a loud hee-haw sound!
Doc Holiday

Doc is a loving and smart donkey. He loves to run and play with Eclipse and Dominique but he really enjoys the playful kicking and rearing games that he, Jefferson and Winchester play together. He loves to run and kick up his heels while being very vocal! He is a real pleasure and will stay close if he thinks he is going to get petted or groomed, which he totally enjoys.
Dominique

Dominique arrived on Christmas morning and scared Rupert, one of our draft horses that was at the sanctuary, nearly to death. She walked right up to him and leaned against his leg, probably for warmth. Rupert froze, standing perfectly still, and looked like he was going to faint due to the ‘thing’ leaning on his leg! Dominique is a quiet donkey and is friends with all the herd, especially Doc Holiday and Eclipse.
Eclipse

Eclipse was born at the sanctuary during the 2024 solar eclipse. She is an ornery donkey and a mischief maker. She is friends with Dominique and likes to rough house and play chase with Doc Holiday, Winchester, and Annie Oakley. She enjoys being near the herd and is usually never alone.
Jefferson

Jefferson is a sweet boy and is somewhat of a follower letting the older boys take the lead in their games together. He is hardly ever aggressive even at mealtime and is always seeking attention…and treats. He loves neck scratches and likes to run around as fast as he can, often barely missing other donkeys who may be grazing in his path. He likes the taste of peppermint and apple treats the best.

Winchester tends to be the leader of the jacks and is a little bit of a rabble rouser! He loves to play and is often starting the fun by nipping at the other donkey’s necks, inviting them to respond. He is a loving donkey when guests are around and prefers to have his back scratched by anyone who is willing!
